That includes Air Force, the Sept. 11 opponent that the coach is nervous about preparing for this early in the year./p pThe Falcons typically are stronger in the early part of the season, before the Mendenhall-admired rigors of attending such a school tend to take hold. BYU's sixth-year coach is always raving about the type of players and people the Falcons and coach Troy Calhoun have, along with the types of strategy used to overcome limitations on the field./p p"I love everything about the academy," Mendenhall said. /p pHe didn't mean this, but he also has to love playing the academy.

The battle for the starting quarterback job at BYU has ended in a tie. Coach Bronco Mendenhall said Riley Nelson and freshman Jake Heaps will be sharing the job when the season begins next week.
