pThe most successful era in team history officially ended July 16 when team president/general manager Rod Thorn stepped down after 10 seasons with the Nets. He was replaced by former 76ers president Billy King, whose official title is general manager. /p pThorn took over the Nets in 2000 and quickly turned them into one of the best teams in the East as they made back-to-back Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003. Thorn's trade of Stephon Marbury for Jason Kidd before the 2001 season was the catalyst for all that success./p pAfter the Nets finished 12-70 last season, many felt Thorn would return to try to help the team get back to its winning ways, especially with new owner Mikhail Prokhorov in place.
