The Oakland Athletics have signed first-round pick Michael Choice to a minor league contract. The team announced the deal with the University of Texas-Arlington outfielder on Friday. Choice was drafted 10th overall in June, the highest the A's have picked since taking Barry Zito ninth in 1999. The Athletics activated starter Brett Anderson off the disabled list and placed closer Andrew Bailey on the 15-day DL retroactive to July 21 on Friday. Anderson started Friday night's game against the White Sox. The left-hander was out with left elbow soreness since June 4. He was also placed on the DL with elbow soreness on April 25 and came back May 29.
