Innings and at-bats are at a premium in Baltimore this September.

It's both a blessing and a curse for the Orioles, who have been forced to use minor league castoffs to fill out the roster and rotation in recent Septembers.

Previously, the Orioles would patch together the rotation with their top minor league veterans from Class AAA Norfolk. Remember Chris Waters? Brian Bass, anyone?

This year, manager Buck Showalter has the option to drop one of the club's top rookies from the starting staff, as the Orioles are currently running a six-man rotation to the mound.

Even the bullpen looks solid—save for Wednesday's blown lead in New York.

The team seems to have found some long-term answers at most of the defensive positions.

Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer off Koji Uehara in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday to give the New York Yankees a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. With the Orioles closing in on their first three-game sweep in the Bronx since 1986, Alex Rodriguez opened the ninth with a single on the first pitch from Uehara (1-1).
